The short version

Your typing stays on your device. Suggestions, autocorrect, and word learning all run locally. We do not see, collect, or store what you type as you type.

AI features send data only when you use them. When you press the microphone or ask the AI to rewrite something, that recording or that piece of text is sent — encrypted — to the AI provider that does the work. Nothing is sent in the background.

We don't sell your data. No ads. No ad tracking.

What the app processes, and where

1. On your device only (never sent to us)

  • Words you type, your personal dictionary, and learned words/phrases
  • Autocorrect and suggestion history, text shortcuts
  • Voice transcription history (if enabled) and its optional audio recordings
  • Your voice diary and its photos — on your phone only, unless you are a Pro subscriber and turn on Back up my diary (see below)
  • Your settings

You can clear learned data and history from Settings at any time. Password fields are always excluded from learning and suggestions. Incognito/private browsing fields are excluded from learning (unless you explicitly enable "Learn in Incognito"). Uninstalling the app deletes all of this.

2. Sent to AI providers — only when you trigger a feature

When you actively use an AI feature, the minimum needed for that request is sent through our secure proxy (proxy.quietkey.ai, operated on Cloudflare) to the AI provider that performs the work:

You do thisWhat is sentTo
Press the mic / use voice typing or the floating bubble Your voice recording (and, if you enabled it, custom vocabulary hints) The speech-to-text provider you selected (OpenAI, Groq, or Alibaba)
Use rewrite / polish / grammar / Ask-AI The text you selected or asked about, plus the instruction The AI provider you selected (OpenAI, Groq, Alibaba, or Google Gemini)
Tap Reply (needs the optional accessibility feature) The messages visible on your screen at that moment, read once, to base the suggested replies on The AI provider you selected (OpenAI, Groq, Alibaba, or Google Gemini)
Use read-aloud (text-to-speech) The text to be spoken Groq, or OpenAI for Japanese, Chinese and Korean
Search GIFs Your search words Klipy

Our proxy passes these requests through and does not store their content. It keeps only a count of requests per account for fair-use limits.

The providers process your request under their own privacy policies. If you select Alibaba as a provider, your request may be processed on infrastructure in Singapore or mainland China. You choose your providers in Settings; if you never use a feature, nothing is ever sent to that provider.

3. Your account

The app creates a free account automatically so we can apply fair-use limits: a random account ID (a UUID) issued by our sign-in provider (Supabase). If you sign in with Google or email, we additionally store your email address. We do not receive your Google password. Usage counts (number of AI requests per month) are stored against your account. We do not store the content of your requests.

Diary backup (optional, Pro). If you turn on Back up my diary, your diary entries and photos are stored against your account so a new phone can restore them. They are encrypted at rest, and the app only ever shows them to your signed-in account. We do not read them, and no tool we have does; as with most cloud services today, the encryption key is held on our servers, so this is a promise about what we do rather than something the system makes impossible. We are working on end-to-end encryption, where only you hold the key. Videos stay on your phone. Turn the switch off at any time and choose whether the copy is deleted immediately or kept for 90 days; if your subscription ends, the copy stays readable for 90 days and is then deleted. Deleting your account deletes the copy.

4. Contacts (optional)

If you grant the Contacts permission, contact names are used on your device so the keyboard can suggest and correctly spell them. Separately — and only if you also turn on the "contacts for voice" option (off by default) — contact names may be included as vocabulary hints with your voice-typing requests so names are transcribed correctly. Contacts are never uploaded otherwise.

5. Crash reports (optional)

If "Share Crash Reports" is on (you can turn it off in Settings at any time), the app sends anonymous crash diagnostics via Google Firebase Crashlytics: stack traces, device model/OS version, and app state — never your typed text, never your API keys. This helps us fix bugs.

What we never do

  • We never sell or rent your data.
  • We never show ads or use advertising identifiers.
  • We never collect your typing in the background.
  • We never monitor your screen in the background, and we never store what is on it. The optional accessibility feature acts only when you do, in two ways: the floating voice bubble places dictated text at your cursor when you tap it; and if you tap Reply, QuietKey reads the messages visible on screen at that moment — once — so it can suggest replies that fit the conversation. That text is sent to your chosen AI provider for that single request (see the table above) and is not kept by us. Turn the feature off and neither happens.

Security

All network connections use HTTPS/TLS. Your session is stored encrypted on your device. Our proxy holds provider credentials server-side so they are never embedded in the app.

Data retention & deletion

  • On-device data: under your control; deleted when you clear it or uninstall.
  • Account data (account ID, email if provided, usage counts): kept while your account exists. To delete your account and its data, contact dev@moosolutions.ai from the signed-in email (or include your account ID).
  • Crash reports: retained by Firebase Crashlytics for 90 days.

Children

QuietKey is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Purchases

Subscriptions (when available) are processed by Google Play and RevenueCat. We receive subscription status — not your payment card details.

Changes

We will update this policy as the app evolves and note the effective date above. Material changes will be highlighted in the app's changelog.
